IA-NE #1
Nothing says one month without getting paid like taking a trip to states 44 and 45.
Had I packed before waking up this morning? What a silly question.
Decided to bring two lenses, 18-55mm and 55-200mm. I really enjoy our new 35mm prime, but decided to bring these two instead for versatility.
Easy flight to Des Moines. No delays or issues with the government shutdown. On the plane, finished After Dark by Haruki Murakami and kept working through Why Civil Resistance Works by Erica Chenoweth.
Stopped at Smokey Row coffee and soda shop. The coffee and sandwich were fine but the milkshake was reallyyyy good.
Then, hit the road to Omaha. Circling back to Des Moines in a couple days.
In Omaha, you have to get steaks of course, so we went to Brother Sebastian’s, a monastery themed steakhouse. Gregorian chant outside (unfortunately “regular” music inside), waiters wearing fake monastic robes, things of that nature. Felt like they were inspired by Monty Python but without the comedy. Ate frog legs for the first time. NY pepper strip was good.
And that’s a wrap for day 1! Two more states crossed off just like that — visited twelve new states this year for us; only five more to go in this country…
