Alaska #5 - Seward
In which we embark on a 6-hour tour
Our first full day in Seward was spent on a boat! We took the Major Marine tour of Kenai Fjords National Park, the 6 hour trip. 10/10 would recommend
We stopped for some coffee and breakfast before embarking, at a rather ordinary cafe and a decent food truck. The weather was rainy, cold, and windy. Not ideal to be on the water.

The tour started off strong with seals, eagles, and a humpback whale. Our captain was clued in on the whale from another boat who had spotted it, and we made a slight detour to watch it blow several times before eventually breaching and diving down.

As it turns out, bald eagles are very abundant in the area. We saw several more throughout our time in Seward; not just on the water, but nesting, flying around, or just hanging out on telephone poles or tree branches.

The ride out of Resurrection Bay was choppy. Pretty sure half the boat had varying degrees of seasickness, and at one point the crew ordered everyone inside and seated in order to quickly accelerate through the rough waters and get out to sea. Crew was prepared and phenomenal. If you do one of these yourself, consider taking two Dramamine…

Substack is warning me I’m about to surpass gmail’s length limit, so I’ll wrap up with these cute baby sea lions! We encountered a whole colony. After the tour, ate great seafood at the Pink Flamingo.
